And there it comes. The time for those iPod fans to get out of their caves and check what”s coming new from Apple.
The annual Apple iPod event is to happen in San Francisco on September 9th. The event will have the theme “It”s only rock and roll, but we like it”. It”s a bit weird, it reminds me of Guitar Hero. This means it will probably have new iPod versions to show off which we always enjoy, including the new ones with a 3.2MP camera.
I’ve just received a confirmation from Vodafone (Portugal) that I am in the queue to buy an iPhone. It’s great to be on a list to spend some money
It seems that finally I got some confirmation of what the price will be for the iPhone here in this little country (but lovely) called Portugal.
Here is the table that I got on that same email:
So, this means that to get the iPhone 3G without robbing a bank you need to obtain a 24 month contract. The table already contemplates a €10 deduction if you give them an old phone. This is a promotion operators are doing in Portugal (almost worthless, but good if they recycle the phones).
To be eligible for a best iPhone contract you also need to be on the Vodafone network for at least 6 months.
Ok, so what kind of money is Vodafone asking you per month? If you don’t want (or are not eligible for) a best iPhone plan you need to spend €3 per day to enjoy surfing the web and read emails. In this plan you only have 20MB per day to use. If you use more than that Vodafone automatically start a second day tariff. I reckon this tariff is only for people that don’t use that much the Internet on the iPhone (what’s the point then?). Or you can add the iPhone extra (aditivo iPhone) for €9.90 per month to have 250MB allowance with €0.08 per extra MB. To be able to use this extra you need a plan other than Vitamina Shock, Vita Clube, Vitas ao Segundo, best iPhone, best Total ao Segundo, Vodafone Directo and Vodafone Casa. All these are not eligible to have this extra.
For the ‘best iPhone’ plans the monthly tariffs are as follows:
Best iPhone 100
Best iPhone 230
Best iPhone 500
€29,90
€44,90
€64,90
The number you see on the plan is the minutes/sms allowance you have monthly. Per aditional minute/sms you pay 0.149, 0.129 or 0.099 according to the plan you choose. In the best plans you will have a 250MB allowance per month and you pay €0.06 per extra MB.
Well, I remember someone saying that the iPhone wouldn’t cost more than $199 on any country. Yeah sure, put all the huge monthly bills of the tariff and you will get that right. For the ones that don’t know how much the euro is compared to the dollar all I can say is that €129.90 is $204.34. This is the cheapest price you will get for the 8GB iPhone 3G in Portugal. For this price you will need to pay €64.90 monthly for 24 months. Cheap…
Good news for police officers (and maybe some other people…). Now they can record video in real time while shooting the bad guys. Be careful though, if someone shouts “SHOOT” maybe it’s just a way of saying to “take a picture” instead of shooting for real :p
It costs £350 (400€ / $700). Too bad the gun is not included or it would be a bargain
“US and Canadian scientists have built a novel device that effortlessly harvests energy from human movements.”
It looks like 1 minute walking provides power to charge a mobile for 30 minutes. That’s impressive. Imagine if you walk for 30 minutes.
Let’s walk and power up your entire gadget collection. Better still, let’s run and stop paying that expensive electricity bill :p
The new iPhone with 16GB of storage space in now available together with a new iPod Touch with 32GB. Both will cost $499. It seems that the only new thing these gadgets have is the storage space increased. Still no 3G and no other added features.
It is now possible to use the great software Skype on your PSP (in case you own one of course). All Skype’s features will be available including the free calls between Skype users. Using the PSP you can also have access to your contact list. All you need to do is to get your hands on the 3.9 firmware and update your PSP.
It looks like negotiations continue between Optimus and TMN. Two of the main mobile operators in Portugal. Vodafone is out of the game, so is up to these two to dispute for the role of iPhone provider. The iPhone will cost around 400€ in Portugal. Do not despair, it’s almost there
It is giving me the looks… Spooky! The Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute has developed a robot to help shoppers to find their way. It monitors people’s behaviour and if it thinks that they could be lost it will offer help. If the lucky people are not lost than Robovie will ‘recommend’ some shops and show them how to get there. This is quite a helpful robot. This company will soon be making this little fellow available to the market.
Yes, more news regarding the iPhone. I know that it’s starting to be a bit too much, but hey… the iPhone was THE gadget of 2007. Let’s talk a little bit more about it
First things first; Firmware 1.1.3 is out and available for you to update your favourite gadget (iPhone or iPod Touch). Check the news on Engadget.
Second in the list, some interesting numbers. According to Apple, they sold around 4 million iPhones since its launch. I guess that’s a good number, don’t you? So, if one costs £269 and if my math is still in good shape, that’s more than 1 billion pounds worth of iPhones sold (yes I used the calculator), not counting the mobile contracts. Ouch…
Another exciting news is that iTunes 7.6 is now available. I am doing the update right now. It is telling me that it is 64.99 MB. The most talked-about new feature in iTunes 7.6 is the movie rental. It is now possible to rent a movie via iTunes and watch it in your computer or iPhone/iPod. The downloaded content will have 640×480 resolution.
Note: Just as I was doing some final touches in this post; iTunes came up taking the focus out of this window and while I was deleting some text using the backspace key it started to delete some of my playlists in iTunes… arghhhh I hate when a piece of software throws itself to the front of every other windows I may have open.
Last but not least, it looks like Canadian citizens will be having the iPhone soon. Some more steps into the world domination, mwahahaha…
Veronica Belmont is reporting from CES and in the following video she is speaking with Art Lebedev, the creator of the fantastic keyboard which each key is one mini OLED screen (48×48 pixels). It looks awesome :p Check it out:
