SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0)

2 September 2009

Superspeed USB logo

Can you feel the excitement? We can. USB 3.0 is inching closer and closer to reality, which means your current PC is inching closer and closer to being a token of yesteryear. USB 2.0 has been around for years now, and by and large, it has been sufficient. Transfer rates are fairly quick, and industry support couldn’t be higher.

But hey, this industry is all about progress, and we aren”t about to complain about newfound speed. The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) today announced the availability of the USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) Compliance and Certification Program, which basically means that companies can have their products tested to receive the SuperSpeed USB logo/certification.

iPods heart

And there it comes. The time for those iPod fans to get out of their caves and check what”s coming new from Apple.

The annual Apple iPod event is to happen in San Francisco on September 9th. The event will have the theme “It”s only rock and roll, but we like it”. It”s  a bit weird, it reminds me of Guitar Hero. This means it will probably have new iPod versions to show off which we always enjoy, including the new ones with a 3.2MP camera.

52″ LG.Philips multi-touch display

Wow, it looks like a giant iPod Touch interface showing Google Maps. It is quite impressive. I imagine this kind of display on travel agencies where we can type Hawaii in the destination and using your hands you could browse through the beautiful beaches, touristic attractions, surf spots, bikinis, er… ok you got the picture.

Panasonic 150-inch HD TV

Panasonic has unveiled its new monster HD TV. A 150-inch giant. From the above picture you can actually see how big it looks. Its resolution is 4x 1080p, which currently, is a bit hard to test since there is no source producing that kind of image. Only custom videos and of course in the cinema studios drawers.

WowWee’s WiFi-enabled Rovio

Rovio is a cool little robot that with its wi-fi capabilities can be accessed through any browser which enables you to control it. You can have this tiny fellow at home and while you are away you can speak with people on the same room as Rovio. You can control Rovio’s movement and activate the incorporated camera to view the surroundings. It has a 3-position head which allows the Rovio to look up in peoples eyes. (scary)

Rovio also knows where its docking station is so when it is running out of batteries he can head there and recharge itself. Nice :) Can WowWee please include a vacuum cleaner functionality in Rovio? It would be a killer feature :p

Optimus Tactus

It looks like the makers of the Optimus keyboard are working on something even geekier (woohoo). They have available on their homepage news of their new concept keyboard called Optimus Tactus.

“Optimus Tactus does not have physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape and size”. The Optimus Tactus will use a tactile display, the size of a normal keyboard, which displays the virtual keys or any kind of screen/video. You can configure it to look the way you want. This is a big step forward. The Optimus keyboard is great because you can configure each key to look like the way you want. With the Tactus you would be able to configure the entire key layout and even add pictures or videos on the board. Great stuff. :D

The release date for this keyboard is set to 01-01-2008. Er… I guess it will take a little longer.

One note in the site: “Problem. Make a one sensor display keyboard”. Our comment: “We believe in you. You can do it!! Pleeeease do it”. :)

Nikon D60 on its way?

29 December 2007

Nikon D40x

If you are interested in photography than you probably know that there are some rumors about a new Nikon camera coming out next Spring to replace the Nikon D40x (pictured above).

This rumor is backed up by Matthew Lin in a post in dpreview.com, which according to Photography Bay is a relevant source.

Let’s hope this one comes with some nice features to complement the range of lower end cameras and, who knows, maybe Live View :)
