WowWee’s WiFi-enabled Rovio

Rovio is a cool little robot that with its wi-fi capabilities can be accessed through any browser which enables you to control it. You can have this tiny fellow at home and while you are away you can speak with people on the same room as Rovio. You can control Rovio’s movement and activate the incorporated camera to view the surroundings. It has a 3-position head which allows the Rovio to look up in peoples eyes. (scary)

Rovio also knows where its docking station is so when it is running out of batteries he can head there and recharge itself. Nice :) Can WowWee please include a vacuum cleaner functionality in Rovio? It would be a killer feature :p

CES 2008

You all know about the CES 2008 which is happening right now in Las Vegas. If you are interested of knowing more about what’s going on in this great exhibition head to the CES coverage site in Engadget.

As a note, Engadget is (in my humble opinion) the best technology blog out there and they have people doing the coverage of what’s going in the CES exhibition in Las Vegas.

Optimus Tactus

It looks like the makers of the Optimus keyboard are working on something even geekier (woohoo). They have available on their homepage news of their new concept keyboard called Optimus Tactus.

“Optimus Tactus does not have physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape and size”. The Optimus Tactus will use a tactile display, the size of a normal keyboard, which displays the virtual keys or any kind of screen/video. You can configure it to look the way you want. This is a big step forward. The Optimus keyboard is great because you can configure each key to look like the way you want. With the Tactus you would be able to configure the entire key layout and even add pictures or videos on the board. Great stuff. :D

The release date for this keyboard is set to 01-01-2008. Er… I guess it will take a little longer.

One note in the site: “Problem. Make a one sensor display keyboard”. Our comment: “We believe in you. You can do it!! Pleeeease do it”. :)

XBox 360

It looks like our friend Billy Gates is going to make an important announcement regarding the Xbox 360 at next week’s CES show in Las Vegas. What is it? I don’t know yet but it could be something exciting to pump up the already great Xbox 360 specifications. Maybe we will get an embedded HD DVD drive on the console instead of the old dying DVD drive or even an HD DVD recorder and the hard disk boosted to 320GB. Perhaps some new motion sensors for the controllers? Oh well, only Microsoft knows. It’s all secret until next week.

I sense that this year’s CES will unveil great things for all the geeks and technology lovers out there. :)

iPhone firmware 1.1.3

1 January 2008

iPhone firmware 1.1.3

Yep, it seems like the rumors are true. iPhone’s firmware 1.1.3 is almost seeing the light of day.

This new firmware brings some new functionalities to your iPhone together with some features that will probably make your life even easier. One of the main additions is the ability to move icons on the home page. You can even drag these icons to a second home page. On the messaging area it will be possible to send sms messages to multiple recipients. This is quite a useful thing to have. To be honest this should have been included from the start. If you use Google Maps you will be happy to hear that you will have an hybrid mode which shows you the combination of the satellite view and the map. Also in Google Maps you will have a button which opens the options menu with a flip-the-page effect. It looks cool. Another useful feature is the option to make a bookmark in Safari directly to your home page. You can have a second home page full of your bookmarks for easy access while keeping the first home page for applications. Neat. :)

Not evertyhing is good news though. By applying this new firmware all third party applications will be erased and if you have unlocked your iPhone be aware that it will also revert it to locked mode.

Gearlive.com has published some photos of the iPhone running the firmware 1.1.3. Due to people being sceptical about it (Photoshop is a powerfull tool) they have released a video which shows the actual ‘goods’.
