The iPhone is out there and it looks really nice!

Yes. As all of you know (if someone is reading this blog :P ) the iPhone was released more than one week ago. I had the chance to play with one. Anyone can try it actually. Just head over to an O2 or Carphone Warehouse store and you have at least a couple of iPhones available for customers or curious people to try them out.

It is a very pleasant device to use. Its smoothness while browsing your contacts or music list its just amazing. I guess that is the beauty of it. Its main flaws: no 3G, no MMS and no camera. What is new in the iPhone? er… well, not a lot really. You have the dual touch screen control which probably is the only thing that you don’t have already available in other devices. At least not like you have in the iPhone. I guess what makes people enjoy the iPhone so much is because it is so easy to use and it looks really nice. Anyone can use it with almost no learning curve to it. And it looks really nice. Did I mention that the iPhone looks really nice? No? Well, it looks really nice. :P

O2 was expecting crowds to queue all over their stores, but it seems that you could buy one in about 5 minutes with no queues at all. That doesn’t mean that the iPhone is not selling loads, it is. “O2 says the iPhone is the ‘fastest-selling ‘ device ever“. Of course even if it isn’t they wouldn’t say :) .

My conclusion:

I wouldn’t mind to have one, but no way I am gonna pay 269 quid for it when I also need to get an 18 month contract. It’s too expensive for the features it has. The free WiFi is cool but internet over EDGE is a bit slow. You can always get a 16GB iPod Touch for that price if you like iPhone’s interface and usability. Of course, no phone features :) , only the other features including the free WiFi on the thousands of hot spots out there.
