The iPhone is almost here!!

Yes, the iPhone will be out in the shops this Friday. The 9th of November will be a very important date, not only for Apple UK but also for O2 which is the mobile operator with the exclusive rights to the iPhone in the UK. I reckon it will sell loads, but Carphone Warehouse is saying that they expect to sell 10,000 iPhones in 4 hours . The stores will close at 2pm to fill the shelves with iPhones and reopen at 6pm when the invasion iPhone starving fans will begin. Until 10pm there is lots of time for heart attacks and people pushing hard their way through until they have their new toy.

Am I getting one? I am probably not getting one now. You need to pay for it and have an 18 month contract. That’s a bit expensive and I still have my Sony Ericsson W810i which is still working flawlessly.
Ok, I must confess, I am waiting for the new Sony Ericsson W960i. I think it is more my kind of phone.

But, let’s stop talking about what I like and what I want and let’s talk about the iPhone.

You will be able to get your iPhone from O2 with the new 1.1.2 firmware. Bad news for hackers out there (maybe it is good news, more fun to be having trying to break this one). Just as a note, the Jailbreak software does not work on this new version of the firmware. This firmware will include some updates over version 1.1.1. These include the support for 12 languages and new virtual keyboards for French and German. Also, the free access to The Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots in the UK is present in the update. Like the iPod Touch, the iPhone will have free wi-fi internet access in the thousands of hotspots across the UK.

Will you be one of the MANY owners of the iPhone next week, are you really not that interested or will you wait a little bit to see if the price drops (free with contract maybe)?

One thing is for sure. The stores selling the iPhone will be busy this weekend .
